Ms. Victoria Gumbs Moore was born in Mineola, New York. She attended the Hempstead Public Schools for her early childhood education. After her family moved to Wheatley Heights, Ms. Gumbs Moore was enrolled in and graduated from the Half Hollow Hills School District. Upon graduation, Ms. Gumbs Moore studied at St. John’s University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. Ms. Gumbs Moore furthered her education at Jacob Fuchsberg Touro Law Center where she earned her Jurist Doctorate in 2000.
Ms. Gumbs Moore started her career in public service by working as the Executive Assistant to the Babylon Town Attorney. In 1998, she joined the staff of NYS Comptroller H. Carl McCall as the Long Island Representative for Intergovernmental Affairs and later served as his legal counsel. In 2001, Ms. Gumbs Moore began her employment in the NYS Court system as the Principal Law Clerk to Supreme Court Justice, the Hon. Michele M. Woodard in Nassau County. Subsequently, she served in the same role to the Hon. Yvonne Lewis in Kings County and Suffolk County Family Court Supervising Judge, the Hon. Theresa Whelan. In 2017, Ms.Gumbs Moore was appointed to the position of Court Attorney Referee in Suffolk County Family Court where she presides over Family Offense, Visitation, Custody and Paternity cases.
In 1996, Ms. Gumbs Moore along with several African American attorneys founded the Amistad Suffolk County Black Bar Association. She served as president in 2004. It has always been the mission of Amistad to assist the African American Community through the efficient practice of Law. Amistad has been at the forefront of opening the dialogue regarding the need for Diversity on the Bench and the Bar. Under Ms. Gumbs Moore ’ presidency the organization enlarged its jurisdiction and became the Amistad Black Bar Association of Long Island.
Ms. Gumbs Moore has been a lifelong member of the Union Baptist Church. She serves as a board member of the Union Senior Plaza. She sits on the Board of Directors for Touro Law Center and is the Vice-President of the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association.
